Instead of adhering to his winning formula of body-con garments again, Christopher Kane bravely switched gears to create a collection founded on length and volume. Combining the dishevelled innocence of Sissy Spacek’s Carrie with the wildness of the Australian outback, Kane presented a feminine, yet sinister collection of Seventies-inspired dresses, western yoke shirts and motorcycle jackets.

‘There is an unnatural quality to the garments, like printing snakeskin on chiffon in artificial colours like baby blue and pink,’ the designer told us backstage.

Beneath the liberal tiers of ruffles, pieces seductively revealed their skeletons due to undulating leather trims and skin revealing inserts. The collection also marked Kane’s first foray into denim; deconstructed bustiers and frayed, bleached blue jeans enhanced the hillbilly feel of the show.
