Roksanda Ilincic’s new collection took a recent holiday in Brazil as its inspiration, and the influence of architect Oscar Niemeyer was much in evidence in the sculptured silhouette. Shoulders were architectural in construction, while skirts and jackets were stiffly structured so they hung off or sat on the hips just so.
Standouts were jewel-coloured, fluid toga-style dresses on a backdrop of black, brightly coloured sash belts, an extraordinary strapless gown with an over-skirt of heavy satin and a luxurious generously shouldered fox fur coat.
Former architect Ilincic describes her style as ‘feminine, elegant and experimental’; her Autumn/Winter ‘08 collection had all three in spades.
