Italdesign Giugiaro Quaranta
Italdesign Giugiaro was another celebrated Italian name with a conceptual debut, highlighting Geneva’s role as a showcase for new work from over the Alps. The Quaranta continued the show’s homage to the late 1960s and early 1970s, with a wedge-shaped body that explicitly referenced the studio’s 1968 Bizzarrini Manta model. Intended as a four-wheel drive sports car that combines hybrid drive and solar energy (still a stretch for automotive production), the low-slung machine is designed for three adults and a child. Taking its powerplant from Toyota certainly helps the car’s credibility, and while the minimal styling might not be to everyone's taste, the retro-future look is here to stay.
