MercedesMercedes showed off a brace of their first commercially-available hybrids, including the S300 saloon, and also gave a glimpse of tomorrows low-impact luxury four-seater. The F700 was dubbed a research concept by the boffins at Stuttgart, and incorporated some pioneering diesel engine technology that should give the emissions impact of todays small city car. The low-slung bodyshape is more Luigi Colani than traditional Mercedes modernism, with swooping curves, transparent rear-wheel spats and the stance of a 1920s-era grand tourer. Patented PRE-SCAN technology tracks the road ahead, adjusting the suspension to match.
