Mazda Furai
A convincing expression of a new design language, the Furai is the fifth in a series of concept cars that Mazda hope will give their image a global leg-up. The name means 'sound of the wind' in Japanese, an apt tag for a supercar, and the ethanol-powered powertrain adds an environmental slant. The high-performance machine is meant to characterise the company's racing ethos, as well as provide a more concrete preview of future design ideas - prepping mass-market consumers for avant-garde forms. Designed in Mazda's North American studio, the Furai flies in the face of conventional car design, although elements of the flowing surface might seep into production soon.
