SCOPE Art Fair takes place at Lord's Cricket ground, also home to Future Systems' Media Centre (scroll down for more)
SCOPE
Frieze’s off schedule counterpart takes place in the unlikely setting of Lord’s Cricket Ground. Showcasing the work of younger, independent galleries from around the world it’s a very good place to spot emerging talent and get a feel for common themes in the next generation. This year’s crop had many impressive individuals and exciting galleries; Vertigo, Forster and Fold to name three in particular. Across a range of medium the outlook of young artists is generally disturbing and bleak. Anarchic dystopias, death and destruction reign supreme – at best subtle and powerful, at worst, brash and obvious. Given the number of collectors bartering with rival buyers (we saw three within the first half hour of the fair’s opening) SCOPE is now just as important a destination for the art crowd as Frieze.
