Anyone who has caught a glimpse of a haunting figure stood aloft the buildings of London’s South Bank would already be familiar with the works of Antony Gormley. Focusing on the body as a vehicle for exploration, Gormley has undertaken a number of commissions – his most prestigious being the looming steel sculpture ‘The Angel of the North’. Taking his preoccupation one step further, Gormley proposes that the plinth should be occupied by members of the public 24 hours a day for a full year – with each living sculpture reflecting the surrounding military statues that pay honour to the individual.
