Daniel Buren's proposal (scroll down to read more)
Proposing what he describes as a ‘signal’ Buren’s sculpture consists of five stacked cubes on a series of four terraced steps, all made from white concrete. A single laser beam reaches indefinitely into the sky from the centre of the structure whilst a multi-coloured cube at ground level holds a parallelogram mirror.
Speaking about his proposal Buren says, ‘When you see the big tower from underneath, which I think is a fantastic view, you have a perception of the physicality of these stacking beams of concrete going up, which are only visible if you go inside the work. It is something that you will never, never see from the distance or even guess it is there.’
