Le Brun’s wing and disc sculpture has strong symbolic references both to the Roman archaeology at the site and also the prospect of flight and movement so central to the surrounding area. Le Brun proposes to carve the sculpture out of the surrounding chalk hills and then cast the hollow space in concrete. Both the wing and the disc would then be lifted vertically in the biggest slab lift in history.

Le Brun explains, ‘In terms of the event itself it could be completely extraordinary because we would build the wing in the pit, lift the wing, secure the wing, then build the disc and lift it into position too. So there will be a series of amazing events as the thing is presented to the public. But more important, and the reason I did it, was for it to be a beautiful and evocative presence rising directly out of the soil of Kent.’
