The new Art and City Museum by Beijing-based MAD Architects is the practice’s first built museum project and the most recent architectural addition to the new town of Ordos in Inner Mongolia. Located on the region’s sloping hills, within the harsh Gobi desert, the museum will operate as a platform for the local community, helping translate the area’s centuries-old local traditions in their new urban context. With its flowing aluminium panel-clad façade, large internal atrium, generous spaces and glass skylights, the museum is set to become Ordos’ new landmark.
