Herzog & de Meuron’s Tenerife Arts Space, Tenerife
Santa Cruz got a boost in 2003, when Santiago Calatrava’s beaked and curvaceous concert hall went live. Plans were already a foot to regenerate the capital’s unlovely industrial seafront, hence this cultural complex. The sprawling grey footplate has room for an institute of contemporary art named after local artist Óscar Domínguez, a public library and a photography centre.
