Insolito Hotel, Búzios, BrazilJust over a year after it opened a new beach club, this boutique charmer on a rocky hillside in Búzios continues to expand. French entrepreneur Emmanuelle Meeus de Clermont-Tonnerre has added nine new guest rooms and a new restaurant to the hotel, converted from her own home. Once again themed around local history and culture, the new rooms - housed in a separate building connected to the main house - are inspired by Brazilian modernism, with furniture from Jorge Zalszupin and photographs by Almir Reis. Meanwhile the new restaurant serves up Franco-Brazilian treats like filet of beef in a jaboticaba sauce with a mandioquinha gratin, and crayfish with banana prata risotto. Le Mill, MumbaiHoused in a vast former rice mill (hence the name), this new concept store is a one-stop destination, incorporating design, fashion, books and beauty products, as well as a florist (a rare thing in Mumbai) and cafe. 'We have filled it with all the kinds of things you just can't find here for your own home,' says Cecilia Morelli Parikh, an ex-Bergdorf Goodman fashion buyer, who founded Le Mill alongside three other women. That said, about 70% of the pieces are either designed or made in India. Whether its their own line - including some beautiful geometric tableware designed by co-founder (and ex-Hermès window dresser) Aurelie de Limelette and some satisfyingly simple stationary - or furnishings commissioned from local names, like textile designers Bandit Queen and Rachna Joshi Nair, it stocks a neatly edited mix.
