It's pretty much a given that the French win hands down in the patisserie department, and a short trip to Laduree will certainly settle it for those in need of persuasion. A Laduree macaroon is certainly one of the finer things in life, and almost worthy of a trip to one of their emporiums in Paris, Geneva, London or Monaco just to try.
Never short on creativity when it comes to flavour, the master patissieres constantly update their back catalogue of macaroons with seasonal and trend-led adjustments. Recently we were very impressed by the addition of grenadine, for instance. But this summer, they've spread their creative wings further a field than usual and taken inspiration from India, creating a Bollywood collection.
Thankfully, the inspiration doesn't extend to flavour this time, but rather colour and shape. Sold in a box of four, the collection certainly looks like a box of sweets from the subcontinent: Indian pink, citrus green, canary yellow and ivory white balls, coated in hundreds and thousands of their respective colours. The collection is also a slight departure from the usual macaroon recipe. Each ball consists of a biscuit garnished with cream and coated in a very light meringue, with pink being grenadine strawberry; green, mint chocolate; yellow, citrus lemon and ivory, coconut raspberry.
