Remember as a child, standing in your mother’s kitchen covered in flour and egg yolk, attempting to build the tallest, most intricate gingerbread house with only icing sugar and water to help you through? As children we dreamt of sculpting architectural cakes but never knew how. One look at the fairytale but undeniably couture-looking fashion pastry series at Café de la Paix in Paris and it goes to show that we should leave it to the experts.
After Chantal Thomass, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Agnes B and Stanislassia Klein each successfully applied their dose of fashion design to the designer Cinq Cents Feilles pastries in 2006, Café de la Paix thought it was only fair the men had a go. The café continues its popular fashion pastries with a new collection, this time designed by the most fashionable men in the city of Paris. Aesthetic enthusiasts who missed out on Paco Rabanne’s deliciously minimalist ‘Cross Flavours’, can still get their hungry talons on Gaspard Yurkievich’s ‘Cream Passionnel’ and the most recently launched ‘Passion Victim’ by Claude Montana.
The last in the ‘Designed By Men’ series of three, ‘Passion Victim’ was inspired by the structurally sleek ‘Parfum d’Elle’ bottle that Montana launched in 1989. Covered in graphically constructed oval mounds of white chocolate mousse, ‘Passion Victim’ is a streamlined mix of cream of passion fruit set on crunchy coconut-flavoured praline. It looks so good we almost can’t bear to dig a spoon in.
