It seems fitting that Swarovski Runway Rocks will return to it’s debut city of London on it’s 5th anniversary for a Couture show and exhibition during Coutts London Jewellery Week. The show, due to take place at the Phillips de Pury Gallery on 11th June, will once again see a collaboration between the world of design and the house of Swarovski.
Hand picked by Nadja Swarovki and representing a wide spectrum of established design talent and young up-and-coming international designers, the brief given to each designer is identical – to design a one-off couture piece with crystals as the main component. Working with the house on the latest technical advances in design and materials the collaborations in the past have produced some extraordinary and beautiful pieces including a bondage inspired harness by Christopher Kane, a striking plastic and crystal skull cap by Naomi Filmer and a transparent crystal and feather mini dress by Rosemarie Le Gallias.
New pieces will be showcased on the 11th by, amongst others, Zaha Hadid, Julien MacDonald, Shaun Leane and Marios Schwab. Additional pieces will also be shown from other Runway Rocks events from around the globe, including the recent show in Mumbai – testament to the desire to create a truly global archive of design talent. And for the first time an exhibition will be held in the gallery space on the following day; open to the public for one day only it will be a one-off opportunity to get a close up look at what is fast becoming a substantial and significant body of work.
