Occasionally jewellery looks good enough to eat – and Delightful Sweets From The Purple Boudoir, an exhibition of jewellery by Suzanne Syz certainly subscribes to this notion. The exhibition opened on 15th May in London and showcases over 50 individual pieces – the culmination of over a year's work.

Syz sites her own private contemporary art collection as a major influence. Amassed over 30 years it’s easy to see how the graphic candy colours of work by, amongst others, Sylvie Fleury and Will Cotton have found their way into her jewellery designs. Syz’s use of precious and semi precious stones in unusual colour combinations and unique settings has created an eclectic collection of modern jewellery. Stand out pieces include a pair of blue titanium and diamond earrings with concealed hinges that ingeniously clip around the earlobe and a multicoloured ‘Lifesaver’ bracelet.
Opening in Paris on Friday 16th May, Cocktails de Printemps sees the work of jeweller Alexandra Jefford shown alongside furniture designer Janette Laverriére. We’ve long been fans of Jefford’s jewellery, in particular her signature use of strong sculptural shapes mixed with a feminine smattering of pavé diamonds, so when we heard of this unconventional pairing we were intrigued. While furniture and jewellery may not seem the easiest of bedfellows, Jefford’s sculptural style is well suited to being displayed in parallel to Laverriére’s characteristic clean, strong shapes.
Jefford has produced 15 new pieces for the exhibition that have been influenced by Laverriére’s strong aesthetic, the most notable being a striking highly polished gold ring with diamond detail that echoes the shape of Laverriére’s mirrored tables, and a beautifully delicate brooch that mimics the lines of a perspex coffee table. Although the two disciplines of furniture and jewellery design may seem worlds apart this pairing certainly proves that their shared aesthetic can be demonstrated on any scale.
Delightful Sweets From the Purple Boudoir runs until 30th May.
Cocktails de Printemps runs until 28th June.
