Mood board: Tory Burch wanted to introduce the preppy East Coast ladies who lunch to the free-spirited, laid-back women of the West Coast. This contrast of the coasts was prevalent in her S/S 2017 collection, bringing about a combination of crisp structure and bohemian cool, to the tune of ‘Massachusetts’ by the Bee Gees.

Finishing touches: Lilly Pulitzer’s Palm Beach was a key influence along with Elizabeth Taylor’s colourful caftan collection. Burch mixed the preppiness of the East Coast with West Coast cool, using psychedelic floral prints that conjured up visions of the 1960s, or the Hamptons today.

Best in show: The collection brought us back to 1960s era Americana. An eyelet cotton sundress and an eyelet blouse and skirt offered the comfort of summer ease. Burch’s cheery floral prints masked any case of summertime sadness.
