Phillip Lim latest collection

Phillip Lim chose a very literal source of inspiration for his latest collection: bedroom interiors. Exploring the dualling ideas of light and darkness, exposure and protection, which all co-exist within this sacred environment, Lim's abstract collection was airy, yet sculptural, and possessed a duplicitous nature all of its own. Contoured tank tops and dresses mixed ornamental panels of cloque with wafts of silk and were trimmed with thick borders that resembled cord. Structured cap-sleeve boleros and dresses exhibited asymmetric necklines and openings that wound their way around the body, revealing slivers of skin along the way. Roomy wide-legged shorts and drawstring trousers served as utilitarian counterpoints to the collection, and came complete with judo belts to further the relaxed, robe-like feel. Lim's defining quality is his ability to craft architectural forms out of fabric, which was demonstrated this season with great aplomb. His silhouettes are as distinctive as they are wearable, and come with an intellectual appeal that extends way past the bedroom.
