With our sex special on the newstands this month - and the collective need for a little light relief – last night seemed like high time to throw a little bash.
Taking shape in Mayfair’s brand new Almada – downstairs bar and restaurant to Carlos Almada’s American brasserie, Automat – the expansive 21,500 sq ft, leathered space came decked out with a few of our issue’s key props, including the menacingly mechanical Fetters FF27 whipping table and revolving bondage bed.

With other entertainment including Robbie Cooper’s Immersion:Porn project playing through a peephole booth, the ‘Making Of’ film for Nick Knight and Peter Saville’s shoot shown in the venue’s back den and a display from the Type Tart Cards exhibition in the toilets - the scene was set for what was to be a decidedly debaucherous event.
With guests including Alexander McQueen, Neville Brody and July’s guest Art Director Peter Saville – along with plenty of luminaries from the worlds of art, fashion and, of course, sex - the event kicked off in style.
Canapés of mini hotdogs, oysters and melt-in-the-mouth panacotta came courtesy of the chefs at Automat, whilst Absolut provided the liquid lubrication throughout the evening.
