Iguatemi pioneered the concept of the modern shopping mall in São Paulo in the late 1960s, and over the last 40-plus years has become Brazil's most prolific retail company, with up-scale malls across the country, including the newly inaugurated property in the capital of Brasilia.
The timing couldn't be better, with a surging national economy driving a boom in retail sales and the city itself enjoying a cultural coming of age, turning 50 last May.
The new Iguatemi centre punctuates that turning point, bringing world class art exhibitions and entertainment, local outposts of nationally acclaimed restaurants - such as the famous Fasano family's Gero - and over 200 stores - most of which are major international brands - to a city that has been underserved for years. Notably, Brazil's new flagship Burberry is here, as are shops by Missoni, Ermenegildo Zegna, Hugo Boss, and homegrown favorite Carlos Miele.
