Leblon-born Bernardo is one of Brazil's most respected contemporary jewellers and designers. A second generation goldsmith and watchmaker, for the past 30 years he has defined and redefined his unique way with gold - almost always gold and usually without ornament. His quiet, sophisticated designs, such as his award-winning Puzzle Ring (US$5,480), as well as his more experimental one-off pieces are produced at his Jardim Bôtanico atelier, and sold in his appropriately stark Ipanema flagship store, which was designed by Belo Horizonte-based Freusa Zechmeister. There are 10 Bernardo boutiques across Brazil, all beautifully designed to complement his exceptional work, which is also sold at top retailers around the world.
