Housed in a grand hôtel particulier in the heart of Paris, Maison Balmain has been a fashion landmark for decades. And the 19th century mansion, synonymous with Pierre Balmain's heightened sense of style since the 1950s, is now set for a new era. A fresh makeover by Paris-based architect and interior decorator Joseph Dirand, who was given carte blanche by Balmain creative director of Christophe Decarnin, has brought the boutique into the 21st century. Elaborate Parisian ceiling mouldings and Versailles parquet flooring remain, recalling the space's original grandeur, while Dirand's intricate ironworks for the grand staircase, abstract mirrored surfaces and elegant beige palette all bring a modern twist. Vintage furniture by 1940s designers Jean Royère and Gilbert Poillerat is staged throughout the rooms, all the better to recline and reflect on the elaborate Balmain collections.
