Sublimely simple, the new Rozan store in Tokyo appeals to every bone in our minimalist loving bodies. Rewriting the script that makes us think of Japanese style as Harajuku, Hello Kitty, and hypercolour, this luxury Kimono shop is crafted using the traditional surface finishes of Japanese artistry - think black lacquer, silver foil, and bare earth. Stripped back and stark, this brainchild of architects Atelier KUU is nothing like you would expect. There is not a kimono to be seen, just simple rolls of material, neatly laid out on bare shelves and a clean consultation desk where you discuss what you need. With floor-to-ceiling windows flooding in light, bare walls, and muted colours this is boutique shopping at its best.
