The process of transplanting the finest elements of global culture to the Emirati island of Abu Dhabi continues apace and Poltrona Frau are the first ‘Made in Italy’ luxury group to open their doors. For the first time all seven of the group’s brands are housed together in the 2-storey, 1,500 metre-squared space. More than a mere furniture shop the store is called The Poltrona Frau Group Design Centre and, in the spirit of the Gulf, shows off its wares to maximum effect, principally with a 50 metre-long, 6 metre-high window front that overlooks the city’s ‘corniche’ or promenade. Opening in good time to maximise the numerous opportunities provided by the very many starchitect projects currently underway, contract and commercial prospects for the Italian supergroup are as hot as the desert sun.
