Ivorypress, the publishing house founded by Elena Foster Ochoa (married with architect Lord Norman Foster) in 1996, has inaugurated Ivorypress Art + Books, an interdisciplinary space in Madrid. The space (designed by Foster) has been conceived as an adaptable gallery space with small rooms leading off it which house the permanent exhibition of the artist’s books that Ivorypress has produced over recent years. The gallery held its first exhibition in February and more to come by May and October. These will include unique retrospectives of artists such as Tichy and Ai Weiwei and will show work previously unseen in Spain. “The aim of this Madrid project is to provide a private space of public dimensions dedicated to art and books. Explains Elena Foster Ochoa. It aspires to become a reference point and a meeting place for initiatives and joint ventures within the panorama of the international art world”. It also incorporates a bookshop offering specialized books, limited editions, out-of-print catalogues and a rare selection of books about photography, art, architecture and design. “The result is an interdisciplinary space suitable not only for holding exhibitions but also for hosting conferences, debates and round table discussions related to the world of art and books – a place where things happen”, concludes Foster.
