Georg Jensen

New York

Georg Jensen’s revamped Madison Avenue store is a subtle homage not just to the brand itself, but also to fellow Danish designers. With great sensitivity, London-based architects Mark Pinney Associates reference Danish architecture and design, particularly the work of Alvar Aalto, Arne Jacobsen, Vilhelm Wohlert and Poul Kjaerholm, with furniture and interiors by Poul Kjaerholm and Hans J. Wegner. The spaces have been modelled after a Scandinavian home complete with kitchen, dining, living and study areas. This provides a cosy, yet appropriately stylish, backdrop for Georg Jensen’s diverse range. Wood, especially larch, has been used lavishly to cover the flooring, slatted wall and ceiling panels, while the dramatically effective palette of dark greys accentuate the silver and stainless steel products. You’re almost tempted to make yourself at home which, we suppose, is the whole idea.
