BIOGRAPHY AND PRACTICE
Founders Jakub Majewski and Lukasz Pastuszka had been collaborating for several years before finally setting up Moomoo Architects in 2008. Both in their mid 20s, the duo studied at the Technical University of Lodz before travelling around Europe gaining valuable experience as interns. Currently the team is five strong and is based in Lodz.
Experimentation is central to their approach. 'We are a young office which tries different materials in the architectural context,' they say, 'we are very impressed by using textiles, which are ethereal and light. It's amazing how you can connect rough and heavy concrete with very delicate and soft textiles.' Direct inspiration is avoided, although they acknowledge that contemporary culture is rich with creative thinking. At the same time, they say 'we love simplicity and we admire simple solutions.'
THE HOUSE
For the design directory, Moomoo designed the hoUSEview, a residence designed to gives its occupants a 360 degrees view regardless of where they stand. The first floor appears suspended in the air, hung from the metal structure and wrapped with an elastic material that can be stretched to create openings and windows anywhere in the space. Movable walls on the ground floor can be used to open up or divide the space.
THE FUTURE
Future plans include the production of unusual design solutions, including a floor designed to show the pattern of rain on a concrete surface. 'We try to follow modern lifestyles,' say the architects, 'and involve what inspires people in our projects.'
