Tokyo

Tokujin Yoshioka is a master of Japanese minimalism, so it’s fitting that he should create this temple to Swarovski’s precision-cut yet barely-there crystals. Which is not to say this store is understated.

The façade is constructed from thousands of long, thin stainless-steel prisms. ‘Using the stainless-steel rods, the facade is able to reflect the ever-changing view of Ginza,’ says Yoshioka. And inside is the closest you’ll ever come to stepping into a jewellery box. Swarovski’s first ever ‘flagship store’, dubbed the Crystal Forest, features over three tons of crystals.

The terrazzo floor is dotted with faceted gems, and a waterfall chandelier of LED-lit glass prisms – ‘28,000 crystal stars twinkling down from the sky,’ as Yoshioka puts it – tumbles two stories from the ceiling. Upstairs you’ll find an installation by Dutch design star Tord Boontje as well as unique jewellery and couture, so you can take some sparkle home with you.
