If the tag line of this newly opened store (‘Bringing Goodd design to Glasgow’) is to be believed, Glaswegians have been experiencing a long overdue design hit since August. The quaintly monikered Goodd’s narrow frontage, in the city’s edgy Merchant City quarter, leads into an intimate space that’s lit just so and stocked with a quirky mix of modern, mid-century and contemporary furniture, lighting and ceramics.
Among its curative coups are choice pieces – many territorially exclusive to Goodd – by Established & Sons (including Barber Osgerby’s ‘Zero In’ table and Alexander Taylor’s ‘Fold’ lamps) and cult Dutch favourite Droog. Says co-owner Thomas Russell, ‘We felt there was a real opportunity to create something worthwhile as a design destination rather than a purely design retail store. Essentially, this is a new environment that presents important design work which no one else in Scotland is showing at the moment.’
