Paris

Opened in 1835, facing the Tuileries, Le Meurice has long hosted the great and good in its palatial surroundings. While rooms are decorated in Louis XVI style, Philippe Starck’s recent makeover of the public areas was inspired by former guest Salvador Dalí. Le Bar 228 features seating ranging from baroque bar stools to 1930s armchairs, while a mirrored cabinet contains a mass of candles and, if you go to look at your reflection, the face of Dalí. The new Le Dalí restaurant features a ceiling-hung canvas by Starck’s daughter, Ara, and Dalí-inspired chairs with ladies’ shoes for feet.
