Sophiya Khwaja explores the connection between, and the separation of, the phantom and real effects produced by a single situation. In her work ‘Line’ Khwaja employs etching, drawing and sewing techniques to produce a figure who appears as both a detailed illustration and simplistic cut-out character – thus forcing the viewer’s imagination to ‘oscillate between fantasy and reality, between what could have been and what really is’.
Since receiving an Honors in Printmaking, Khawaja as exhibited both internationally and within the US, with recent shows at the Sol Koffler Gallery and Ewing Center in Providence.
