Klaas Diersmann

Graduate Directory 2008

It's not often that a final year project leads directly to real work. For Klaas Diersmann, however, that's exactly what happened; having won the D&AD Global Student award for a brief from MTV on its 25th anniversary, he now contributes on a freelance basis to the channel. 'Music always plays a big part in my moving image work,' he says, which undoubtedly makes him just the man for the job.

Though he was interested in a broad range of artistic disciplines as a child, from architecture to product design, it was the lure of both the still and moving image that ultimately grabbed him: 'With photography, I'm interested in the human interaction between the environment and surroundings. I focus on the detailed changes. For me, inspiration comes from anywhere and everywhere, but I usually find it in the place you least expect. It's easy to walk around without really opening your eyes.'

Diersmann compensates heavily for our collective sightlessness, and one thing is for certain; he himself is unlikely to go overlooked. As well as for MTV, he is already working with Channel 4, Nickelodeon and AKOA.

Would most like to work with:
'I would like to work in film with Wim Wenders, Alejandro Gonzalez Iñérritu or David Lynch.'
