'The Habor'

Victor de Castro

Graduate Directory 2008

'I'm a kind of photo-storyteller' says Victor de Castro, who considers his work to be bordering on the cinematic. But as well as being influenced by David Lynch and Gus Van Sant, he also finds equal inspiration in amateur photography and the prosaic: 'I love to photograph banal moments in reality, and make them special,' he elucidates.

He must be doing something right; as well as exhibiting at the Fine Arts Museum of Lausanne, he also scooped the 2007 BFF promotion prize in Germany. But for De Castro, his passion for immortalising moments in time took root at a very young age, often without the aid of a working camera; as a child he used to cart an unloaded camera around with him, or, failing that, would simply blink his eyes to take a picture that would be printed in his visual memory.

Would most like to work with:
'I’m fascinated by art books so working with Steidl publishing house would be fantastic. I would also love to collaborate with BUTT Magazine.'
