John Rocha is something of a hoarder and his new store in London’s Mayfair is living testament to his skill as such. The store is in what used to be a pub on Dover Street. Gone are the bar stools and beer stains, replaced now by Rocha’s men’s and women and children’s collections, together with a library of poetry and reference books and a selection from the designer’s personal art collection.
Three floors and an apartment at the top have been restored with painstaking attention to Rocha’s personal taste. Stone and timber form the majority of the store’s backdrop, interspersed with original 1930’s French ceramic tiles. The designer’s approach to his latest project is very much ‘work in progress’, as important a venue to add the things he collects on his travels, as to show of his wares.
