Inspiration
Realarchitektur is a Berlin-based architectural practice founded in 2003 by Jens Casper and Petra Petersson. The work of the practice is engaged with the complex nature of the contemporary city: ‘More than ever,’ they say, ‘urban life will be shaped by the varied interactions between simultaneous social, technological and cultural transformations.’ Realarchitektur is interested in the spatial impact of those processes – in the tangible material organisation of space as well as the immaterial and negotiable realities shaping it.

Inspiration
For Realarchitektur, inspiration comes easily thanks to the architects' inquisitive natures: by examining the underused, the everyday and the familiar, and combining their findings within the project restrictions and spatial situation, they see themselves as transformers of what is already there.

Innovation
The main focus of their work has been the development and conversion of housing and residential buildings, such as their much admired conversion and extension of a listed air-raid bunker in Berlin into a house and gallery for the contemporary art collector Christian Boros. But they are not averse to experimenting in temporary urban housing prototypes either, and have made a name for themselves as ‘residential consultants’ and collaborating with other architects, such as Sir Michael Hopkins’ Dubai Office, in the development of housing projects.
