Information
Teradadesign Architects was established by Naoki Terada in 2003, along with two others, Kenichi Hirarate and Shinya Katsumata. The 40-year-old principal started the studio with the aim of working on interiors, buildings, products and furniture design. Major works include private houses and a cinema complex.

Inspiration
The practice cites the work of landscape and light artist James Turrell as an influence on its interior approach, along with the other-worldly aviation-inspired sculptures of Panamerenko. Terada also mentions photography from the Apollo project and the films of Tim Burton. The T Stomach house is so named because of its sprawling, intestine-like interior arrangement.
Innovation
Teradadesign has a stripped back, almost science fiction aesthetic that worships bold sources of light and glossy, reflective surfaces. Working with different scales naturally means that the approach varies from project to project. 'We focus our interest in developing various materials and their usages beyond the scale of each project,' says Terada.
