Information
Denis Brillet, Benoît Fillon and Pascal Riffaud established Block in Nantes in 2000 as an experimental venture. The members had worked together for many years, starting out with what they call the ‘thoroughly illegal occupation of Blockhaus DY10', a Second World War bunker that was turned into an arts venue.
Seguin House, Herbiers
Inspiration
A combination of recycling, installation, performance art and architecture projects underpins their work. The team is interested in shifting perceptions, whether through installations or structures that deliberately distort our general perception of scale, as in their angular, low-lying Sports Centre in Brest, an awkwardly shaped volume that accommodates various functions within.
Innovation
The Seguin House is a curiously pragamatic suburban dwelling, almost anti-architectural in its upright, static stance. Clad in metal tiles and featuring raw, unprocessed interiors of galvanised steel and concrete, the house brings together off-the-shelf utilitarian products to creates an idiosyncratic domestic idyll.
