Information
The two founding members of A69, Boris Redcenkov and Prokop Tomášek (both 38), graduated from the Czech Technical University in Prague and together set up an architectural firm in 1994 in Cheb. In 1997, third member Jaroslav Wertig (born 1969) joined them, establishing A69 as they are today. Their expanded offices also include a studio in Prague, which opened in 2000, as commissions – ranging from residential to urban planning and interiors – are pouring in.
Inspiration
For A69, the best departure point for any project is the client and the actual commission brief. With the strongly held belief that great architecture is created by architects’ reactions to real world problems, the Czech team tries to select a unique point of departure for every project. Architecture for them is best represented in 'the theme of structure. Structure in turn creates harmony,' they say.
Innovation
As much as they fear that the future of architecture will be polarised – with architects either working towards élite, high-end projects or condemned to a large amount of average quality real-estate work – A69 feels committed to its own individuality, hoping that its work will reveal something of the unique personality of the author.
