‘Playful, fresh and thoughtful’ are the adjectives words Pete Oyler uses to describe his output, and we concur; his degree show comprised a body of work titled FOREVER YOUNG, which featured irreverently joyful designs from hammered out cardboard seating to colourful giant rubber bands which function as wall shelves. The latter has already been picked up by a myriad of design bibles, so when Oyler tells you that he has spent the months post graduating promoting his RISD work, you sense he’s making a pretty good job of it. It all started when, aged eight, he made his first table from an old milk crate; ever since, he’s been hooked. ‘I love working with - and thinking through - my hands. I work with a wide variety of materials and enjoy the challenge of synthesizing my ideas with new material processes.’ Still, despite the accomplishments he has already accrued, he nevertheless cites his proudest moment thus: ‘Putting together a set of IKEA drawers without destroying them.’ How we sympathise…

I’m all about the Dutch I guess… I really admire Maarten Baas and Droog.
