Even before he graduated Joel Escalona had his own studio and several industrial design projects in production with Mexican and North American manufacturers. ‘With the ‘Mutant stool and Coffee Table’ project, I was riffing around the idea of how furniture and design might evolve in a weird way, like a mutant growing extra legs. And while it’s fun, it also works. The stools can be stacked to make tables of different heights and with different colours to create a variety of looks. The stackability also makes them easy to ship.’

Most inspired by:
‘The first book on design I read was about Philippe Starck, so I guess it all started with him.’
