Louise Naunton Morgan

Graduate Directory 2010

After a school trip to the Design Museum, so impressed was Louise Naunton Morgan that she felt moved to write to James Dyson to bestow her approval of his vacuum cleaner. ‘I think my interest in art and design started in secondary school, and it also partly came from my older sister who is a fashion designer.’ Graphic design came later, but Naunton Morgan maintains that ‘it chose me rather than the other way round.’ Principally the attraction was in the openness of graphics: ‘I think the nature of graphic design allows you to collaborate and experiment with other areas of design easily… my work is very concept-led. Throughout I try to generate concepts which are simple and light-hearted but deal with more serious issues. I like being able to make someone smile.’ Evidently she has impressed at Nike, where she has been freelancing, and she is set to hold an exhibition at Saatchi and Saatchi in 2010… oh, and all that whilst simultaneously setting up her own publishing and printing press with two colleagues. Smiles all round.

I don’t think there is one particular person, but if I had to select someone who has guided me most in the past twelve months, it would be Rathna Ramanathan, my third year tutor who was never happy with anything I did and kept pushing me.
