A lack of aptitude for maths is what Anna Sinofzik credits for her early forays into the world of graphics. ‘I was so bad that I used to kill time during lessons and exams by drawing geometric shapes. I also collected skate stickers as a kid in the eighties and admired great book and record covers.’ While she describes her style as ‘geotypographical’, she is constantly looking for ways and means to understand her own and others’ work. ‘I’m currently doing an MA course in Design Writing Criticism at London College of Communication. I enjoy writing as another mode of creativity, but also as a tool for understanding. Theory is a good idea – it helps me re-investigate and challenge my ideas and deepen my understanding of design practice.’ She also works as a freelance designer, but insists that she has no grand long-term plan. ‘I’m not keen on long term strategies. Things never turn out the way you expect. I play by ear.’ We say: hear hear.

Music and the people around me. I fall for stuff like Hans Richter’s abstract, geometric videos and constructivist art.
