Chris Ottersbach

Graduate Directory 2009

It comes as little surprise to discover that Christopher Ottersbach is inspired by Star Wars. His spectacular Aelous project, a vision which calls to mind the Surrealists, is a vehicle run by helium which allows its passengers to float just above the surface of the earth, and certainly has sci-fi leanings in its execution. Moved like a balloon by the wind, it can stay afloat for two weeks, is environmentally friendly, and has an arresting aerodynamic form. Ottersbach meanwhile insists that pleasure pervades all of his work: ‘My style is that I have fun, and I’m not terribly serious about design. I hope my work shows that.’

Would most like to work with: Luigi Colani. I really like the conceptual approaches in the field of transportation and bionics and the thoughtfulness in the creation of forms and surfaces.
