02. Designer of the Year

Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings have a strong sense of colour and a definitively Dutch sense of humour. Typical of their witty approach is their paper-inspired porcelain range, 'Paper Porcelain', with scored 'folds'; seen at Object Rotterdam, it was then joined at Salone del Mobile by surprisingly realistic textile 'Vegetables'. Several designs have gone into production with Established & Sons this year: 'Amsterdam Armoire', a colourful, contemporary take on a traditional form, featuring photographs of the designers' models inside its doors and pink handblown glass feet; 'Butte' illustrated storage boxes, inspired by wooden travel cases; and 'Yellow/Pink/White' handblown glass lights.
