02.4 Particia Urquiola

Spanish architect and designer Patricia Urquiola has helped plenty of people sit comfortably this year, with the 'Bend' sofa for B&B Italia, 'Silver Lake', 'Spring' and 'Rift' sofas for Moroso and new chairs for Kartell and Moroso. She has also designed a range of rugs for Gandia Blasco, and an impressive installation with BMW and Kvadrat that explored automotive interiors (and formed the basis of a Wallpaper* limited-edition cover, W*134). Topping it all, Urquiola has created the interiors for two new hotels - the Mandarin Oriental in Barcelona (see Best New Hotel) and the W Retreat & Spa on Vieques Island, Puerto Rico, both with her trademark warmth and innovation.
