Alber Elbaz is proving himself a diviner of women's spirits, perfectly understanding their contrary desires to look both together and wild, demure yet strong and above all brave and different. His autumn/winter collection was a dynamic tour de force of sultry types sporting long black Leigh Lezark-style wigs and one-shoulder architectural creations. Many outfits had big shoulders, crystal tribal embellishments and marabou feathers as chest plates. But warrior women can turn into boudoir belles, and Elbaz's lace slip dresses, pencil skirts and lingerie blouses in ink and charcoal were divine. So were his fit-and-flare swing coats, which were winners even in a season of fantastic coats.
