Wallpaper* Design Awards 2011

These three hand mirrors were part of Rhonda Drakeford and Lulu Roper-Caldbeck's first collection for Darkroom, their concept store on London's Lamb's Conduit Street. The graphics- and textiles-trained designers were inspired by their grandmothers' vintage dressing table sets. Their renditions, however, fit seamlessly into a contemporary environment. Various shapes were trialled to achieve maximum visibility and ease of use for everything from follicular refining to mascara moments. It wasn't until the finished mirrors were in the duo's hands that the names 'Bat', 'Cleaver' and 'Barber' came to them, reflecting the three forms.
