04. Best new hotel

Housed in a complex of old buildings that includes a 13th century monastery, the Augustine hotel is the result of a restoration project by local architects Omicron-K and the Rocco Forte group. The hotel retains plenty of original features, including baroque ceilings, carved wooden doors, beams and vaulted ceilings, but it also mixes in modern details, such as Anthony Critchlow's spherical light sculptures. Olga Polizzi - Rocco Forte's design director - and interior designers RDD celebrate Prague as the home of cubism by adding cubist-inspired lamps, posters and iron-framed furniture, and reproductions of chairs by Paval Janak and Vlastislav Hofman and chaises longues by Adolf Loos.
