Design Awards 2010

Created by Dutch designer Dick van Hoff as a one-off in 1999, the 'Stonestove' has been rekindled for the 21st century and put into production. The result, made from Cor-Ten steel encased in heat-resistant concrete, offers a functional domestic wood burner with industrial good looks. Van Hoff, co-founder of Dutch design company Weltevree, has also created the ‘Tilestove' – a contemporary take on the traditional tiled stove – for Dutch ceramics manufacturer Royal Tichelaar Makkum. Both have won our hearths and minds.
Key features: The domestic wood burner with industrial looks is Van Hoff's 'modern translation of a traditional heating concept'
Material: Cor-Ten steel, concrete
