Design Awards 2010

Pared down almost to the point of disappearing, the 'Shortcut' towel rails are domestic minimalism at its best. Each consisting of just one slender steel rod artfully folded into shape, the rails are just the thing for those preferring a barely-there approach in the bathroom. Created by Japanese design company Nendo – also nominated for Wallpaper's Best Furniture Designer award – for Italian kitchen/bathroom giant Boffi, the rails are part of a range of bathroom accessories created with the aim of making functional objects from the most minimal of materials. We're quite hung up on them.
Key features: The most minimal of towel rails, each made from a single rod
Material: Stainless steel
Previous projects by designer: Awardwinning designs for manufacturers such as Cappellini, De Padova, Moroso and Oluce
Based:Tokyo and Milan
